This week’s grant listings number: $2.5 billion.
Yo, we’re at the end of the fiscal year. It’s quiet out there, at least in terms of new money. Inside the federal government, there’s a rush to get things settled up before Wednesday.
One thing I am wondering about in the aftermath of the Trump federal layoffs is agencies’ ability to move new grant listings while they’re processing this many competitions. I am seeing a lot of, “Here’s seven new grants from one agency with the same deadline.” It also seems lighter in terms of money that doesn’t expire until next calendar year, but we’ve also had a weird few years, so finding a level is a bit difficult.
I am going to flag one new grant worth paying attention to: there’s a new defense grant for universities published this week—but it’s explicitly for money that it says is not technically available yet. That’s… not unheard of, per se, but I can’t recall the last time a federal funding opportunity was this upfront that it is for cash that may or may not be appropriated. (Legally, I have questions, but Defenseland is its own continent.)
