This week’s grant listings number: $2.6 billion.
We’re in what I call “Listings Vacation Season” for new federal grant opportunties. Behind the scenes, this is actually crunch time for federal grantmaking agencies as they run competitions and gear up for the push to get all the cash out the door before the fiscal year ends on September. Publicly, though, it’s quiet and the number is dipping from what was an extremely active spring, particularly with the attempted workforcification of several Education grants.
So, there was a big drop in available funding this week, and there will be a noticeable drop next week when several HHS funding opportunities come off the board. Instead of new listing highlights—of which there are still a few—I’m flagging a couple things I see on the radar that I’d pay attention to:
Potential re-ups of funding opportunities that just finished a competition. The one to circle here is Labor’s Strengthening Community Colleges, all $65 million of which was very complicatedly pushed in the direction of aiding Workforce Pell rollout. DOL hasn’t yet awarded the funding from that last competition, but DOL signaled early in that competition that it probably would run this one back as-is when new money became available, which it did on July 1. I’d encourage a streamlining in that circumstance, but the Administration has a lot riding on Workforce Pell—the implementation of which hasn’t gotten any easier for states—so there’s definitely a need for more cash.
International cash. DOL signaled it would have two new international projects hitting the streets soon. Granted, DOL signaled early and published late for those grants in 2025, but these are cast on favorite funding priorities of Trump II, including access to critical minerals.

This fund invests in projects improving quality of life and economic development opportunities in the 255 counties and parishes in the Delta Region, including in workforce development and Registered Apprenticeship expansion.
Community Infrastructure Fund (August 24)
Who can get it? Governments, colleges, tribal organizations and governments, nonprofits, workforce boards, and regional planning organizations.
Total funding? $15 million
Award ceiling? $1 million
Award floor? $250,000
The fund supports the development of infrastructure in the Delta Region and in doing so creating access to more jobs, including access to programs such as Registered Apprenticeship.
U.S. Department of Agriculture
Rural Cooperative Development Grants (NEXT FRIDAY)
Who can get it? Nonprofits.
Total funding? $5 million
Award ceiling? $1 million
Award floor? $200,000
These funds support nonprofit-run centers that develop cooperatives and mutually owned business in rural areas. These efforts must work to help save jobs or counsel employers on how to develop and hire a skilled workforce.
Who can get it? Public high schools, colleges, and nonprofits.
Total funding? $750,000
Award ceiling? $150,000
Award floor? $10,000
These grants support efforts to interest young people in agriculture and the business of agriculture to provide a qualified and engaged workforce for the sector.
